If you are reading this testimonial and you are wondering if you should, then I’m here to tell you that you absolutely, categorically, 100%, should.

Let me tell you why.

I have known Campbell for over 10 years, having first met him on a logistics project.  Since then, I have not only come to know him as an incredibly smart and dynamic IT professional, but also as a leader of people that delivers easy to understand insights and wonderful advice.

Over time he has come to be a trusted advisor for me personally, and he is a rare example of someone that has achieved fantastic management outcomes by really walking the talk.
And if the mention of “management” and “outcomes” has your eyes starting to glaze over don’t worry – I can promise you that you won’t be subjected to mind numbing content and endless PowerPoints.  That’s not Campbell’s style.

Campbell is an ever-changing, highly motivating and massively engaging force.  And he is incredibly passionate about sharing his knowledge.

Success doesn’t happen by accident.  And Campbell's successes speak for themselves. Anyone who is lucky enough to have Campbell's advice and mentorship will most certainly increase their chances for success tremendously!

I have known Campbell for nearly 10 years now, initially as a customer of Applied Logic Systems in his capacity as General Manager IT for Bidfood NZ.

A few years later he also became our General Manager when Bidfood acquired Applied Logic System. It is during this time that I got to know Campbell.

Professionally, he has always impressed me with his ability to keep abreast of the latest directions and developments in the tech world even in his busy daily workload.

Moreover, he is able to bring this knowledge to provide guidance for his teams.

His strong suit is his problem solving ability. To him, problems are like puzzles which he enjoys solving or playing a hand in solving them.

The other thing that strikes me about Campbell is his ability to put people at ease. He makes you feel that you are able to talk to him about anything and not being judged.

Campbell has a good balance in his management style. He gives a lot of leeway to his team in their daily routine but still able to keep them from straying off course by attending short daily stand-up meetings with the teams.

One thing I learnt from Campbell is you need to entrust the people working for you. He was strict with his team but always in good humour. Most importantly, he is fair.

Campbell is not all about work either. He has a good sense of humour who enjoys a good joke and always quick with a witty quip. So much so, we have become friends outside of work, sharing pot-luck dinners etc.

Nonstop Talent
It’s my pleasure to provide recommendation for Campbell.

I’ve worked with him over the past years, where he was a GM Technology at the Bidfood Limited, sharing the skilled candidate to build a high-performance team.

He takes the necessary and appropriate time to work through the process to find the right candidate. However, once found, he acts quickly to decide and then complete the process.

Campbell has high expectations of us but works very transparently and in a highly engaging way to make sure we can deliver the best candidates in the shortest amount of time.

He is open to ideas and happy to debate and discuss options that could make things better.

Due to his passion for human skills, Campbell is on a mission to help other self-motivated professionals to excel their career. Allow me to point out three examples of Campbell’s strengths.

First, Campbell has a great understanding of the latest trends. This means industry trends, market trends, as well as technology trends. Not only is he able to tell you what’s going on in the job market, but he can identify some very vital considerations to avoid you from outdated advice.

Campbell has the combination of business acumen and communication skills that makes him an outstanding career influencer.

Second, Campbell has a substantial experience in IT leadership.  He was able to influence and deliver through other people – whether they work for him or not.

He folds in strategy, both understanding where the business is headed and aligning IT strategy, as well as influencing that business strategy.

Hence he can hold up a mirror in which you can see yourself and your situation with newfound clarity. It enables you to improve your awareness of your goals, objectives, strengths, weaknesses, aspirations, barriers, etc.

Campbell publishes his insights and expertise on social media and is also regularly featured on channels such as LinkedIn.

Third, Campbell can coach experts and beginners.

There are plenty of people looking to make the jump to a prominent career position. Others are just starting their career and have basic questions.

Campbell acknowledges that life is not all sunshine and rainbows. He delivers genuine value to people through insightful content and actionable advice. In most cases, he is speaking from experience when he is talking about the pitfalls.

I know it’s genuine because it doesn’t sound like a cliché superhero backstory.

OEM Print Solutions
I met Campbell when he started as General Manager of IT at Bidfood (formerly Bidvest) and worked with him for almost 11 years – from 2008 to 2019. The company that I worked for at the time had been supplying network printers to Bidfood for a number of years and up until then it had been a very traditional transactional based relationship.

Over the time that Campbell was at Bidfood we worked together and totally changed both the customer/vendor relationship and most importantly for Bidfood, how the print environment worked,  - saving Bidfood money, but also reducing the time the Support Office spent managing printing.

The basis of the change was open and clear communication, a mutual respect for, and understanding of, each other's businesses, and a desire to create something that worked for both companies.

It became a very different relationship from what happens with most IT departments, where there is little value placed on relationships and a lot on perceived cost savings.

As customer and supplier, we got to know each other very well and this meant that we could provide the best possible solutions based on our knowledge and experience and the goals that Campbell wished to achieve for Bidfood.

One of the things that I enjoyed most about working with Campbell was his openness and honesty. I always knew where I stood and it always felt like I was a part of the Bidfood team, not just someone who sold them stuff.  I know that my office based colleagues who also worked on the Bidfood account, in different areas, felt the same. I believe that this is the reason that our service team often went above and beyond - they felt valued.

Campbell helped me develop confidence in myself in that I didn't have to operate like the other salespeople in my industry and helped me become aware that my strengths are working with customers who don't fit the normal requirements.  He also helped me realise that I don't need to conform to how things have always been done to be successful.

When I changed companies, and was rebuilding my career, I reached out to Campbell for some help.  He helped me form a strategy on how best to reach new business and to build on existing relationships.  It was a strategy that proved to be very beneficial and, specifically, it helped me to win the business of one of New Zealand's largest companies.

Campbell has a great ability to make you look at your own strengths and to build on them. He has compassion and patience, and an ability to really understand how people work as individuals.

I have known Campbell Such for 11 years; in a customer capacity for 5 years and the remaining 6 years as a member of a team that he managed. We worked together at Bidfood Ltd until he left to venture out on a new career path.

As a colleague, Campbell is incredibly generous with his time and expertise, which includes everything relating to IT Leadership, Project management and overall management experience.

He is very respectful and gets along with everyone.
Campbell has an excellent rapport with people and his excellent communication skills allow him to connect with all kinds of people to inspire them to succeed.

His encouragement and guidance over the past 6 years has helped me to develop into a more confident person.

Applied Logic Systems
I was a leader of an enterprise application development team, reporting to Campbell who was the General Manager of IT.

I worked with Campbell for almost 6 years from 2013 to 2019.

What stood out about Campbell was:
 - Relentless positivity: even when hitting barriers, a drive to learn from any mistakes and then keep moving forward.

 - Enthusiasm for everything being done by the team – taking an interest and being happy to be a sounding board.

 - Challenging the status quo – I.e. it doesn’t have to be done like that just because it’s always been done like that.

 - Criticism is encouraged, accepted, and acted on.

 - Removing roadblocks that we did not have the seniority to influence, to help us to the finish line faster.

 - Shielding the team from anything that didn’t directly impact us.

 - Generous with time - either he found time, or he has a good reason to defer and follow up later.

 - Found time to expand his news feeds to include anything relevant to the team’s development work.

 - Always keen to get to know his colleagues personally, including spending personal time outside of work to socialise.

 - If there was a crucial decision was needed urgently that was impacting the business, one that would ideally be made by Campbell, but he was unavailable, he encouraged us to make the best decision possible and promised to back us. This didn’t happen often but when it did, he always walked the talk and backed us. He took any ‘heat’ and no one was “hung out to dry”.

Campbell helped me in a couple of key ways:
 - His measured reactions to receiving bad news gave me confidence in acknowledging that a problem exists, and communicating it early.

 - His unceasing backing encouraged me to follow my instincts without feeling I had to ask permission first. However, at the same time he did expect me to keep him in the loop, so he was across what we were doing and wasn’t on the back foot if there were issues.

As a result of my relationship with Campbell I have become more proactive, taking action immediately rather than waiting for someone else to do it, or for a minor issue to become a major problem.

Campbell never misses an opportunity to discuss a random thought that might be useful – this earned him the “Oh, and one more thing...” award at the company’s Christmas Dinner.

Campbell and I were colleagues for a few years, working in the digital arena.  He was managing the Digital Printing bureau and I was in sales. We both reported to the MD.

What really stood out for me was Campbell’s people skills – these particular skills were around his sincerity, integrity and more importantly how positively supportive he communicated with people.

Campbell often coached me on thinking through the way I communicated with clients (sales, non-promotional conversations and resolving issues), while enriching the relationship with them.

Because of the coaching on communication that Campbell provided, it was a subject that I became very interested in and continue to read about.  I consciously make an effort to communicate in a way that is uplifting, blissful and positive towards others.

On top of this Campbell has a great sense of humour and there are always great laughs to be had.

Working with Campbell was a game-changer for me.

During the time we worked together, he helped me learn how to deal with difficult situations and was the critical supporter when I decided to change my career.

His in-depth knowledge about authentic leadership and human interaction has guided me to develop my soft skills to perform my job more effectively.

I'm lucky to have Campbell as a mentor for more 5+ years, and I feel that both my personal and professional life turned into a very positive and exciting way.

Bidfood
Campbell was the CIO/General Manager IT for Bidfood when I joined Bidfood in 2014 as Business Solutions Manager.  I reported directly into Campbell. I worked with Campbell from September 2014 until August 2019.

Campbell had a very consultative approach; he was well read and most importantly shared his knowledge.  He was also open to hearing other perspectives.

Campbell was very supportive when coping with stressful situations, providing tools to cope with the stress and put perspective on it.

Campbell reinforced the importance of maintained a healthy network and was supportive of me maintaining my network.

Campbell helped me to place little value on assumptions that I made based on limited/small sample sizes, not listening to the stories I was telling myself about something observed.
Cognitive Biases:  Campbell made me more aware of biases that I may have or that others may have and it helped with decision making.  Before I met Campbell, I was aware of different human behaviors, but he did help make me more aware of them.  I am more aware now of things that influence my decision-making process.

Campbell had a way of practically demonstrating different human behaviour and provided tools to become aware of these behaviours that may influence decisions that we make. Campbell provides a calm perspective; he is well versed in human behaviour and uses that knowledge to achieve great outcomes.

Campbell has had a calming effect on me.  Because of Campbell, I’m available to my staff, I see myself as a leader not a manager.  My staff perform, not because I command them to, but because I influence them to.
