My wife Els and I set up Gifts for Kids to provide Christmas gifts for kids who wouldn't otherwise have a single present to open on Christmas day. And who wouldn't otherwise get to experience a little of the special magic of Christmas.
Why do we do it? Imagine what Christmas would've been like and how you would've felt if there was not even one present for you to unwrap on Christmas morning.
Els and I started Gifts for Kids in 2012 with 80 presents working closely with Plunket – who identify the families in need and deliver the presents.
Initially it was just Els and me funding it but over time a bunch of friends, colleagues and an increasing number of generous businesses now donate money to buy presents. With their help, last year, Christmas 2019, Gifts for Kids provided gifts for over 1500 kids.
Gifts for Kids is a registered charity
All donations go to buying presents - no one get paid
And we’re doing it all over again this year – hoping to make it 1500 kids getting a present to unwrap on Christmas day with a big smile on their face.
